Fall Cleaning Checklist for Dallas Homes

After a long Texas summer of running air conditioning, open doors and kids tracking in dust and grass, fall is the perfect moment to reset your home. Cooler weather means windows can open again, holiday guests are on the way, and the dust that settled during the hot months is ready to go.
This checklist walks through the jobs that make the biggest difference before winter. Tackle a few each weekend, or let a professional team do it in one visit with a deep cleaning.
1. Start with the air: filters, vents and fans
In Dallas homes the AC runs for months, and the filter catches everything along the way. Before heating season:
- Replace the HVAC filter. Most homes need a new one every one to three months; with pets or allergies, lean toward monthly.
- Wipe the vent covers in every room. A damp microfiber cloth removes the gray film that builds up on ceiling and floor registers.
- Dust ceiling fan blades before switching them to winter mode. An old pillowcase slipped over each blade keeps dust from raining down.
2. Windows, sills and tracks
Summer storms and pollen leave windows streaky and tracks full of grit. Clean the glass inside, wipe the sills and vacuum the tracks with a crevice tool. If you have a lot of glass, add inside windows to your cleaning (it is priced per window) or read our full window cleaning page.
3. Kitchen: get ready for holiday cooking
The kitchen is about to work overtime. Before the first big meal:
- Clean the inside of the oven so holiday roasts don't smoke. Our post on oven cleaning hacks has natural methods that work.
- Empty and wipe the refrigerator shelves and drawers to make room for leftovers.
- Degrease the range hood and filter, the backsplash and cabinet fronts around the stove.
- Clear out the pantry: toss expired items and wipe the shelves.
4. Bathrooms: the details that build up
Hard water is a fact of life in North Texas. Scrub shower glass and fixtures to remove mineral spots, wash or replace the shower curtain liner, and clean grout lines. Our shower cleaning hacks and toilet cleaning hacks make quick work of the toughest spots.
5. Bedrooms and closets
Swap summer bedding for warmer layers and wash pillows and comforters according to their labels. While you're there, rotate seasonal clothes, donate what nobody wore this year and vacuum the closet floor.
6. Baseboards, doors and light switches
These are the spots everyone forgets, and the ones guests notice. Wipe baseboards, door frames and light switches throughout the house. It is one of the main differences between a regular clean and a deep clean; see 7 baseboard cleaning hacks for the fastest way to do it.
7. Floors and rugs
Vacuum under furniture, mop hard floors and spot-treat rugs. If carpets look dull after summer, a professional carpet cleaning with pet-odor or stain treatment brings them back before the holidays.
8. Outdoor entry points
Sweep the porch and entryway, shake out doormats and wipe the front door. A clean entry keeps leaves and dirt from coming inside all season.
Do it yourself or book a fall deep clean?
A full fall reset takes most families a weekend or two. If you would rather spend that time outside enjoying the cooler weather, X-Act Care's trained, background-checked teams can do it for you. A deep cleaning covers baseboards, doors, light switches, vents and built-up grime, and you can add the oven, fridge, pantry and inside windows when you book online.
After the reset, a recurring plan keeps it that way: regular house cleaning every week, every two weeks or every four weeks saves up to 20% per visit. We clean homes across Dallas, Plano, Richardson and nearby cities.
